US Sales Tax Nexus Checker — 50 states, one click
Since the Supreme Court's South Dakota v. Wayfair decision, US sellers can trigger sales tax collection duties in any state just by crossing a sales or transaction threshold — even without a warehouse there. This free nexus checker maps your annual US sales and orders against every 2026 state threshold in one shot.
How economic nexus works
- Most states: $100,000 in sales OR 200 transactions per year
- Higher-threshold states: California, Texas, New York ($500,000)
- Sales-only states: Kansas, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Wisconsin (transaction count removed)
- No state sales tax: Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware
Why this matters for Amazon, Etsy and Shopify sellers
Marketplace facilitator laws mean Amazon, Etsy and eBay usually collect and remit sales tax for you — but your own Shopify sales, DTC website and wholesale still count toward nexus. Once you cross a threshold, you generally have 30–60 days to register with that state's Department of Revenue.
Next steps if you triggered a state
- Register for a sales tax permit in that state's DOR portal
- Configure your Shopify / WooCommerce store to collect at checkout
- File returns monthly, quarterly or annually depending on volume
- Use TaxJar, Avalara or a CPA for multi-state filings
